Al & Don Schneider

A.J. “Al” Schneider launched his company in 1935 with the proceeds from selling the family car, buying a single truck that marked the start of what would become one of America’s leading transportation and logistics firms. From those modest beginnings, Schneider’s iconic orange trucks grew into a familiar sight on U.S. highways.

Early on, Schneider secured its first interstate authority from the Interstate Commerce Commission, hauling goods for Procter & Gamble between Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Cheboygan, Michigan. Soon after, authority to transport paper and paper products was added—a core part of the company’s business that endures today.

Al’s values of integrity, respect, and excellence shaped the company’s culture and fueled its growth. His son, Don Schneider, carried that vision forward, ushering the company into a new era of innovation. Under Don’s leadership, Schneider became one of the first carriers to adopt satellite communications, setting new standards in safety, efficiency, and driver support.

Beyond business, Schneider National also committed to community impact through the Schneider National Foundation, supporting initiatives where its employees live and work.

Today, Schneider National reflects the combined vision of Al and Don Schneider. Offering truckload, intermodal, and supply chain solutions across North America and beyond, the company remains a testament to their dedication and leadership.
